| Welcome to 7th Grade Social Studies!
Welcome! We will be using this blog all year. About once a week or so we will take part of class to blog about what is going on in the chapter, the classroom, and on projects. We will also use it to blog about current events.
With each topic you will be expected to do two things to complete this assignment: (I will be taking a grade on your blogging so it is important to complete it each time we blog.)
1. First you will reflect on the topic or topics I have given. Use complete sentences and you must write at least a paragraph. (No less than 5 sentence each topic.)
2. You must read other student's reflections and make at least 3 comments to 3 different reflections. A good sentence will do. These comments should be positive in nature or contain constructive suggestions. Any negative or rude comments will cost you the points for that blog assignment.
You may blog more than the minimum of 3. You are also welcome to return to the blog and add comments at other times during the week.
I am hoping that this blog will give you a voice in the classroom.
Blog for August 28, 2009:
1. What do you think of the new computer? Were they helpful or not, support your opinion with specific examples.
2. What do you want from Social Studies? We will be doing projects with the units, what type of activities do you hope to do for these projects? This is your chance to let me know what you like or don't like. If you don't tell me there is no way for me to know, I can't read your mind. |

| 1.I think it is very helpful. In KOREA, our schools didn't have computers, so we have to write by pencil. So we felt so tired. But I came U.S., I wasn't feel tired. Because of computer. We can find information by google. So I think new computer is very helpful.
2. I don't complain of social studies. It is U.S. social, so I don't have information for U.S.. So I hope please explain history and modern easily. That's all. And if you can give me sheets early please. I can't follow class.

| 1. I liked the computers because it was helpful for me to have social studies related games to play after I finish my test or work. My favorite game was capital catch. It shows you a capital and you have to click on the right state. At the end it shows what percentage you got. It is fun to improve on your score.

| I think the new computers are great. They are very good to help us learn about the states and capitals. They are also so easy to use and very light. I really enjoy the computers i am glad we got them in our school. They are so much better then writing on a piece of paper or worksheet. Anyways, I really like these computers and I hope we have them for a long time.

I very much agree in what you said. It is much better without paper and pencils. I used to get really tired and bored when I was writing too.
I know you are new in America so I can help you learn, after all I am a student too.

| 1) I like the new computers. I think that they are very helpful. It helps you learn in a more fun way because now we can play the educational games that make it fun to learn what were supposed to learn. And it helps with writing assignments because a lot of people prefer typing their essays instead of writing them. And now we have our own computers!

| 1: So far I do like the computers, it's kind of a way to see what is coming in our future and if our future's anything like today than I think we need to learn more about computers. Because knowing me I'm not so great with them, but nows my chance to get better! :)))

1. I like the new computers for a lot of reasons. First off, they are more fun than just listening to a teacher go over things in the classroom, because all we would do would be spacing out. With the computers, we get a little bit more freedom, and can learn more by doing this than watching anyone talk about states on the activboard. The computers are fun, but I would like it if we all carried our own little computers around. They are more helpful, because it is a more affective than any other teaching method, especially for people with short attention spans. 2. I hope that social studies isn't like it always is! When we just read from the textbook, no one really pays any attention, and the only way we even learned was by doing projects. my favorite things were projects, because those were hands on and fun. I hope that out of social studies I actually learn something this year, because most years we barely got anything at all. For projects, I would like more hands on things, and just things that actually help us. |

| 1. I really like the new computers. They're small and light!!! I'm not really having any trouble typing on them. I don't like how the screen is small so you have to scroll back and forth and side to side. I think they're very helpful because they are faster than the old computers.
2. I like to build things like last year I got to build an aqua duct. I also like to draw. I don't really like to write informational things like reports. I don't really like presenting things unless its like a group thing. I like to color things too. |

| 1: So far I personally like the computers. I think that using computers in school is almost showing us what the future will be like, and if the futures anything like today than we should be using computers, and this is a better way to get to know computers more. Because if you're anything like me than you need to learn! :)))
2: Well, Mrs. Fuller, personally I'm happy you can't read my mind! But for Social Studies projects I love doing plays or skits, or a musical thing of some sort. Because than you can have fun and learn more about the assignment! |

| 1.The new computers are great. i love them. The size is pretty cool. But the keyboard is a bit small. But all together the mini computers are pretty great.
2.Social is probably my fourth favorite subject. behind science, P.E. and lunch of course. In social studies i like medieval stuff .And things where you have to get your hands on stuff like clay. I also like to build models and stuff. |

| I disagree, because only about 2 people have had that problems. i am curious- do you have big hands? That was really the only reason that those 2 people had that issue. Plus, this is MUCH better than just watching a power point or listening to a teacher drone on about a Civil War.

| 1. I like the new computers because they are very helpful for typing essays. But also the computer screens are too small and it make a difference on sites that i visit. the computers are fun too use to. Especially because we all have our own computer and we are not limited on how long we can use them. These computers are designed in a different way then the ones that i have used. So it is hard to get to programs that i want to use. But i'll get used to it.
2. I think a good idea for a social studies project is to turn the whole thing into a play. If we turn it in a play then it will feel like we are actually experiencing how it felt like back then. We could have characters in a script that people will audition to have to get a part they want. Then we could have someone to supply the props and clothe. Then if the idea becomes a success we could present it to the family. |

| Well I think you might be able to read my mind because I definitely know about spacing out in class! I the freedom thing I'm all about, because if not sometimes it's like they don't trust us with technology! (teachers) But now I feel they do! I think it would be really cool though if they would let us take them home!

| 1.- I really like the new computers. I think that they make it more easy to do things, like projects. I think that the new computers are kind of small, but they work very good. They are very useful for me and they let us do things faster. I will really remember this computers. And I also think that they are going to make 7th grade easier.
2.- I really like to draw. So, I would really like it if you would let us do some project that involves drawing. I don't really like to do some type of projects that involve us writing essays. I don't really like to write. But, I think that whichever project that you will make us do is going to be just great for us. I really do like to do a lot of different types of projects, but one of the ones that I really like the most is making a power point. |
