I think that the constitution test was great so far. I think that the thing that really helped me the most was the games, whenever we play the games, I can actually almost get a preview of the test and it allows me to take notes on the things that I don't know already before I actually take the test. I think that another thing that really helped was the short stories that you told us, whenever I was about to answer a question, sometimes those stories just pop up to refresh my memory. I think that the main thing that I think you could do better is that when we play the games, we should have the opportunity to play the games multiple times so that we could look over it and see that we have learned something new. |

| 9-4-09 Illinois Constitution Test
Welcome to your first Blog! We will probably do this two times a month or so. We will be using this blog all year and will take part of class to blog about what is going on in the chapter, the classroom, and on projects. We will also use it to blog about current events.
With each topic you will be expected to do two things to complete this assignment: (I will be taking a grade on your blogging so it is important to complete it each time we blog.)
1. First you will reflect on the topic I have given. After logging in, delete everything in the box and begin your blog by putting 9-4 (or what ever the date is), 8_ (teacher's inital), & your initals. It will look like this: "9-4 8BKF" Use complete sentences and you must write at least a paragraph. (No less than 5 sentence each topic.) We are not texting so spelling and punctuation counts!
2. You must read other student's reflections and make at least 1 comment to another students reflections. Start it the same way as above: "9-4 8BKF" A good sentence will do. This comment should be positive in nature or contain constructive suggestions. Any negative or rude comments will cost you the points for that blog assignment.
You may blog more than the minimum of 1. You are also welcome to return to the blog and add comments at other times during the week.
I am hoping that this blog will give you a voice in the classroom.
Sept. 4, 2009 Blog:
How has the Illinois Constitution testing process been for you so far? Do you have any suggestions on how I could make it better for you? What was helpful or of no use? Answer these questions and be sure to watch spelling and puncutation. No less than 5 sentences and use examples when possible. Don't forget to respond to another students blog! |

The Illinois Constitution testing has been going really well for me so far. When we first got those smaller books about the constitution it was really confusing to why we were doing the study guides like that. I actually think that finding the answers throughout the week that we worked in the smaller books helped a lot. Although there were people who would cheat, in the end having to find the answers helped more than it would have if you would just give us the answers to the study guide. We had worked so hard with finding the answers that when I had to study, it was easier to just memorize the answers, yet know what they meant. The only way I think it could maybe be made better is if we all participated when explaining the questions in class before our test. Besides that, overall the Illinois Constitution was an easy test to pass with the techniques that we had used to learn all the information.

I think that the Illinois Constitution testing process was great. I don't think that this could have been any better. The study guide was very very helpful. I also really liked using the ActivExpressions. Those are really fun to use. I can't really think of any suggestions to make. I think the most helpful by far was the study guide. Without that everyone, including me, would have failed. Thank you very much for the study guides and all the things we did in preparation of the two tests. |

The Illinois Constitution testing process was helpful in learning about the government in Illinois. I thought the test was easy when I studied. On the first test about the branches of government, the last question was not on the study guide. Other than that i liked the Constitution. Also we didn't have any homework which I liked. |

I think that the Illinois Constitution has been pretty good and it has helped know things I didn't know. I really loved doing the ActiveXpression game. We should do it more often. The study guide was really helpful. It helped me get prepared for the test. |

The Illinois Constitution testing process has been very good for me so far. I find learning these things rather fun. I did dislike the way that we researched at the beginning, because the book was very vague and obtuse about its contents, and the same things were redundantly placed in several different places. I enjoyed the voting experience particularly, as I am new here and had never seen anything like it before. I also liked the tests, as the multiple choice was easy and the questions were too. I think this system is very good, and would prefer if this was done again. |

The Illinois Constitution testing process has been great, I think the way you are doing things is also great. Some ways to make it better would be to maybe let the kids fill in the answers so they could figure it out better, and know it by themselves. Also on the study guide you could try to make the questions more on what will be on the test so they can try to study harder on those. Another thing is maybe you could make it mandatory to copy down the questions on the review game, because that helped me a lot and people were asking to study with mine. Also I think you should maybe play the branches test twice like you did on the general information one because people I think need more time on the branches one. This whole systen you had was very helpful for me though because it helped me understand the way to to things and how to answer the questions. I think that if I would have found out more about the questions on the test i would have done better. This was very helpful to me I just think it should be changed a little different, and then i think it should be great. |

The Illinois Constitution Testing has been going well for me. The Branches test was a little difficult even though i studied a lot. But the General information one was quite easy. :) I don't really have any suggestion's on what you should change because i think everything has been great. Just about everything you have come up with has been very helpful to my grade and has helped me pass these test's. The review test was by far my favorite! I think that one was the most helpful. I loved how we got to write down the question's and answer's from the review game because that was what i studied the most. I think the only thing that wasn't much of use for me was having to search the book for the answer's on the study guide. It was okay, but i didn't use it that much because the review game question's narrowed down the one's that i really needed to study. Over all i am really enjoying learning about out state of Illinois, and everything has been very useful to me. :) |

I agree that the games did help, but a game with all the exact questions that would be on the test would have also helped a lot. I also think that if we all used the same game to learn the information on the test would be an even bigger help. |

I think that the Illinois Constitution has been pretty easy. The first test about the branches was a little bit challenging though because there was so much information to remember. The review game was helpful, but if we had played it more than once i think that it had been more helpful. I also think that working in groups when we had to look for the answers in the little book would have helped too. Instead of having to search for all of the answers and page numbers by ourselves. Also, i think that after we got all of the information out of the packets we should have gotten more time to study the stuff that'd be on the test. |

I agree with the fact that it was difficult to find all of the answers for the study guide and some people did have problems completing the it. But however I do think that there are better methods for learning all of the things that you have to know for the test. |

I think that it has treated me well so far. I don't have any questions so far because I think you are doing great as a teacher teaching us the Illinois Constitution. The review game was very helpful for me because it pretty much gave us the answers to the test. I think that I am doing really good with your teaching. You are the best teacher for the Constitution test. Thank you for teaching us. |

The Illinois Constitution testing has been going good so far. It isn't as hard as I would've imagined. The review games have helped a lot, and I wouldn't have done as well on the 2 tests of we haven't played them. The study guide helped a little, but not as much as the review games. For next time, I suggest a less elaborate study guide, because in my opinion, it didn't help very much. Since it is a test, it isn't fun, but it seems like it isn't to bad so far. |

I think that the Illinois Constitution testing has gone very well so far. I thought it would be a lot more challenging then it has been so far. For the most, i don't think that I have any suggestions on how to make it better. Other than maybe doing the review game more than one time. I think that if we do it more than once we can feel more comfortable with the information. I think the review game was a very helpful way of studying. I also think that the review packet we got at the beginning was helpful because that was a lot more challenging than the actual test, so it prepared us to know the extra information.

So far, the Illinois Constitution testing, for me, has been great! My school secret is if I pay attention and study, my grades will be just fine. That's exactly what makes it easier for me. I suggest that everyone does this because those tests were so easy! Our school is lucky to have such well educated teachers and accurate information to help us students succeed in life. I would appreciate not for it to be harder but I will do my best if you do. The study guide really did help me learn the information. I personally like this unit in Social Studies but I might be the only one. The one thing I didn't like was that small book that we got. It was confusing to look for anything in different places but I guess that can't be helped. |

1. It has been alright, but I did fail the first test. I'm pretty sure I did perfect on the second test though. I'm not sure how I'll do on the big test though. It shouldn't be too hard since I took it once already. But who knows?
2. If you had waited until a little bit further in the year instead of doing it first thing. Also if you had given us a little more time to study. I'm sure I might have done a little bit better than I had done on the first test. I don't think anything else should be changed other than those two. Even though people did pass it first try.
3. Doing the review games were really helpful to me and helped a lot. I wrote down the questions and answers to the ones I needed then studied those the most. I didn't write as much on the first game we played. I bet thats why I didn't do so hot on it. But playing the games really did help me out quite a bit.

The test taking process has been so far so good for me. I find it much easier than I originally thought it would be. I don't even have to study, and I still get at least an A on the tests. I also believe that the review helped tremendously. When I say this, I also believe I speak for the 8th grade as a whole. Although I only need to take the review once, perhaps it would be even more helpful for others to take it twice, once each day the two days before the test. |

I think that the Illinois Constitution testing has gone really well so far. The study guide helped me remember most of the facts about our constitution, and though it was a lot of work, I think that the fact that we had to fill it out ourselves helped me remember more facts. The review game was also a big help; not only was it extra studying time, but it helped me determine which areas I needed to study more in. Also, the test wasn't very hard. I think if you took a little bit of time to study, and you applied yourself, you could pass easily.

I think what you were saying about the book and things was right because I was kind of wondering about whole book thing, and pages because people didn't really use them and they cheated and stuff. But I think this was a very good example of the project it was great. |
