He is being nicer and trying to not to lose his temper with the other  boys when they make fun of him. He is also not calling them names or hitting them like he did a the begining of the book.

 Samuel's steps to being nice to the other boys is he tries to avoid them as much as possible and he isn't hitting or calling them names. Like when James gave him salt water he didn't lose his temper. But since James died he only has to worry about Richard.

He is trying to keep up what Captain Smith told him so that he can get along with them and not get in trouble. Since he sees that James dies he has less to worry about and now he really understands that he needs get along with other people so that he does not end up getting into to trouble just like James.

Samuel starts off by hurting them until he starts to get better with his anger. He tries to help them, but they can't trust him yet. Now it is to late for him to be nice to James because he died.

There getting along because there working together and there finally being nice to each other and James just died

Samuel is trying to get along with them by not being so mean,not calling them names.The Natives attacked there settlement and he pulled Richard under the mattress but James wouldn't listen to him and he went out there and got killed by an arrow, but Samuel tried to be kind and save his life.

Samuel tries to be nicer to the boys by not hurting or calling them names he also tries to save them when the natives attack.

He tries not to call them names or fight them.

Samuel tries to get along with Richard and James so he doesn't get hung without a slop bucket. Samuel tries to stop yelling,hitting, and saying bad words. When the Natives attack James wants to run to the ship but Samuel yells stay under the mattress so you don't get killed. But it was to late for Samuel to be nice to James because he died.

When Captain Smith tells Samuel to be nicer to Richard and James, Samuel actually tries he asks James and Richard if they want to work together but Richard turns him down and tells James not to work with him. And when James says if the natives attack he will go to the ship Samuel dose not tell him that he is stupid!! But the boys still don't see that he is trying to be nice to them!!!

Samuel is trying to be nicer to the boys. He tries not to hit them. First, he is trying to be nice because, he doesn't want to be in chains again. Second, He tries to not say anything bad to the boys. Third, he tries not to hit them. Later, when the natives were shooting arrows, he tried saving Richard and James. James said that he was going to hide in the ship. He ran outside. Richard and Samuel hid under the mattresses. Samuel and Richard was safe, but James was dead. He was running into the ship and then, got shot. He is taking lots of steps, but the chance of being nice to Richard is gone.

Well Samuel is trying to get along better by not calling them names or saying bad comments. He is also wanting to hit Richard or James when they do or say something bad to him but he tries to keep himself from not hurting them. Samuel also wanted to say good night to James but he could never because James got shot by a Indian attack.

He tried to talk to them both but they didn't want to listen because they thought he was going to hurt or harm them.Then when there were arrows going past them Samuel was trying to stop James from leaving the tent so he wouldn't get shot but James wouldn't listen so Samuel Kept grabbing his leg and James bit him and escaped out of the tent and ended up dead.Then So he could get a chance to get along with Richard he covers them both with a mattress so they wouldn't get hurt and checks him and thats how he got along with Richard.

He is trying to work hard and he is kind to people.
Even when he was mad, he tried to control his anger and not get into a fight.

after the fight that him and Richard got in to he apologized to   Richard and asked him for a slop bucket.
