Why would asking Chief Powhatan to come to James Town to recieve gifts upset him because , he did not want to be king James subject

Because he thinks he is king of them, not them the king of him.  he doesn't want to be a prince of England when he already is a emperor too.

Because Jamestown is all his land and he thinks the settlers are his subjects and he is an emperor and does not want to be brought down to the level of a prince and going to jamestown would be shameful since he is the emperor and they are his subjects they should come to him

He thinks that that will mean he is King James's subject.

because he's the chief and they want to make him a  prince of Jamestown and if they want to give him gifts they should come to him

Because he knows that he will be the kings subject.

He didn't want to be a subject of King James.
