 They do not fell like they have to.

they think he is dead

They don't know what to do when Captain John Smith is gone.

All of the men have stopped working because they are not getting any orders from the Captain John Smith. So none f the soldiers are gathering any food.

Since Smith is gone, they feel they should not do anything since they are of higher class.

Because they are use to women doing the work

They all think they dont have too because he always gives them orders

The men don't feel like they have to do chores while Captain John Smith is away.
 

They stopped working because there is no one to tell them to do work and encourage them.

Since their Captain is gone, they feel they don't have to work anymore.

the gentlemen think he is dead, so they think the ''if you don't work you don't eat'' rule still applies.

He made the rule that however does not work does not eat so if he is gone they dont have to.

Because Captain Smith is gone they think they do not have to do what they did while Captain Smith as there.

 I think the gentlemen stopped working is because John Smith isn't there to yell at them,so,that makes it so they can do whatever they want.

Captain Smith encouraged them and now they think the Indians took Captain John Smith.

Because, the people think that since caption Smith is gone that they don't need to work.

They believe that there is no need to continue working, plus they think there's no purpose.  

Because John Smith was the one who was making them work.

The man have stop working because captain Smith is gone and he is not there to tell them to do it and no one is caring about the things they have to

they stopped because usually John Smith would tell them what to do.
