Sweep-Team Testing

    We have made it through round one of Sweep-Team testing!  Thank you for your patience and support through this process.   Now we need to discuss how things went.  Please blog your positive thoughts and concerns about this process.  To help you get started here are some questions to think about.  Add your own ideas and comments as you see fit.  Thank you for supporting our efforts to better reach every child. 

  • What went well for you? 
  • What needs to be improved? 
  • Did you have enough training to adequately administer these assessments?
  • What were some of the quirks of testing that you encountered?
  • Were the materials adequate for your needs?
  • Was your testing environment satisfactory?
  • What concerns do you have overall or about specific areas of the tests?
  • Did we have enough time scheduled for test completion at Sweep Team level?
  • What needs to be done that we haven’t thought about yet?
  • Was access to protocol materials convenient for your needs?

Couple of observations re: AIMSweb

It might be helpful to have each student's name already printed on a test booklet.  This would allow us to have enough booklets and then extras.

We need to allow for absences and make-ups. 

Taking 3 students at a time worked out okay for the older kids but the primary grades can't wait that long.  After a few disasters, I only took 2 at a time and it worked out better.

It seemed to be too distracting to try to have 3 people testing students in Zeman's room.  More than one person commented on the lack of continuity in terms of test setting.  If we are all to administer it the same then it should be given in the same type of setting to allow for reliability. 

Some kids knew we were coming and some others didn't.  Could they get a bit of a "heads up" next time?

We had some sweep team members who were not aware that they were part of this team.  How can communication be handled in the future so that we are all on the same page?

For sweep-team members... When you are done with a student, cross their name off the list please.

Everyone on the sweep team seemed to care about what they were doing.  This really showed :)

I had a two students who were crossed off the class list but had not been tested.  Luckily a classroom teacher brought that to my attention.  I had another classroom teacher tell me during the middle of the day that her absent student had come to school late and was now available.  I appreciated their partnership in this procedure.

Scoring and Input

The scoring went more slowly than I would have liked.  This was due in part to Megan not being available due to her students needing her and April not being available in great part due to other obligations and meetings. 

I scored for two days (excluding the writing which is still not complete) and input scores for one day here at school.  I spent a large portion of the day on  Thursday and Friday at home working on entering the remaining scored data.  This will definately take more than three days to score and input.

It would help greatly on scoring the envlope asssessments if teachers would attach a class list to each type of assessment and to have the papers in Alphabetical order.  It is almost impossible for me to do this as many of the students don't have their last names on their papers, or use a different name than that which is listed on STI data sheet.  Therefore my input speed is greatly reduced.  Sixth grade did this and I was able to whip through their assessment input very quickly.

What a Difference

I think RtI has been a positive effect on all levels of students.  They are engaged, just as I am with my group today.  I am smiling to myself to see such activity and enthusiasm over any activity we do to help them learn.  They don't even realize they are learning in a different way for life-long learning.
