Chapter 6
1. When Mortenson returns to Pakistan with money for the Korphe school, Abdul Shah, the watchman at the hotel, says, "By the merciful light of Allah Almighty, tomorrow we make much bargain (p. 32)." What does Shah mean? What do the act of bargaining and the mention of Allah reveal about Shah's culture? How is it similar or different to your culture?

2. What misunderstanding occurs in this chapter?

1.He means with the money, the day will be better because he will buy supplies for the Korphe school. With the money that he has. They have to bargin to get the supplies. He said ''We must bargin very well'' Said Shah.
2. The misunderstanding was that Greg is trying to build a school in Korphe but Changazi wants him to build a school in his town. So they had a BIG argument.

1) Abdul said "By the merciful light of Allah Almighty, tomorrow we make much bargain." First of all, Allah is the name of their god. This is different from my culture because we call our god, God. Also when he said "....tomorrow we make much bargain." means that when they go shopping tomorrow they will try to find an affordable price that not only Greg likes, but the person selling the item likes. That is very similar to my culture because we always want to get the cheapest price possible.
2) When there was a misunderstanding involving Greg, it meant that some of the people of Korphe thought that he was building (unfinished)

1)Shah meant that there was going to be lots of bargaining tomorrow, with Mortenson. Shah wants Mortenson to build a school, probably because Shah had a bad education. The tradition is different because we have 1 God (if you are a Christian).
2)Greg wasn't supposed to build a school for Khane, or a school for Balti porters to learn better mountain climbing.

1. He means that they need his gods help because they will need to buy many things and bargain a lot with a certain amount of money. In my culture we don't bargain much, you sometimes do though. We also believe in one almighty god and his son jesus who died and came back to life for us.

2.The people of other villages think that Greg is building a school for them, not Korphe.

1. It is similar to my culture because this is my culture! Bargain means that they will trade like Native Americans. And we Muslims know that only Allah has the powers of everything, including blessings.

2. The people of Khane thought that Greg was building a school for them instead of Khorphe.

1. Shah meant that it would take a lot of bargaining to get the price low enough for Greg to afford. In America we hand the salesperson whatever they charged for what we want. We don't usually bargain for it.

2.The other villages that Greg stays in think that the school was meant for them.

Allah is their god's name. And also Shah meant that now that Greg has money they can make a good bargain. Now that Greg has money he can bargain for school supplies. This is different from America b/c in the U.S. people shop at the store and buy from that price.
2). Greg argues with Changazi about where they eant to put the school Greg wants it in Korphe.

[2] All the villages say he will build a school for them but he is going to build one only in Korphe.
