Chapter 6
1. When Mortenson returns to Pakistan with money for the Korphe school, Abdul Shah, the watchman at the hotel, says, "By the merciful light of Allah Almighty, tomorrow we make much bargain (p. 32)." What does Shah mean? What do the act of bargaining and the mention of Allah reveal about Shah's culture? How is it similar or different to your culture?

1a. Insead of buying something for the price the seller wants to sell it for, the people of Pakistan bargen, or argue about the price.

1)It shows that Shah is a Muslim.Their way of getting stuff is different than our way.

2)The people of Khane and Kuardu think he has brought supplies for them,instead of for Korphe.

1.Greg means that with the help and prayers of Allah Almighty,  he will make many bargains for school. 2.One of the misunderstandings of this chapter is that Khane thought that Greg promised to build a school for the children of Khane or a school for Balti porters where they could learn better techniques of mountain climbing. But Greg said that he never promised that he promised that and that know-body would listen and made rumors.

2. Now that Greg has all the things to build a school in Korphe he made a stop and now the other village says why don't you build a school for us. Changzi says, thats its to far and dirty in Korphe. I noticed that thats the reason why he wants to help them instead.

shah means thet they will bargain for suplies for the school.
shah's culture is where they bargain for things and pray for people when going on a dangerous journey.

1 I think it means that they do things different than we do.

2 the people in Khane thought that he was going to bring supplies for them, but he was really bringing them for the people in Korphe.

1.Shaw said that Allah would make it possible for getting the things for the school. It is different because the people here are way more religous than America because sometimes I ask people their religion and they don't know.
2. A lot of people kept thinking Greg would build them schools for their villages.

1. Shah was saying that god or Allah in this case, made it possible and that they would go buy supplies tomorrow. It reveals that Shah is religious. It's different because thy call god Allah and women have to wear head scarves.

2. Everyone thought Greg was going to build schools for them.

1. Shah said that "By the merciful light of Allah Almighty, tomorrow we make much bargain." He means that Greg needs to spend his money wisely and that God will help him.

2. When Greg bought all of his supplies he went to several villages, and they all thought he was building a school for them! But Greg said he was building a school for Korphe. He became very frustrated.

1. He means we will bargain LOT for prices and fight over every penny. The act of bargaining reveals they don't have set prices and they enjoy bargaining. The mention of Allah reveals his religion. It is different because we don't bargain for prices there is a set price.
2. The misunderstanding in this chapter is every place he goes they think he will build the school in their town.

1.) Abdul Shah, by that remark , meant was  they were going shopping. In his country, they don't look at the price and pay for it, they  bargain, one names a price and the buyer tries to talk down it. In our country, we just  look at the price and pay for it.
