Unity Point School was formed when several rural schoolhouses were combined into one central location. The name was suggested by Mrs. Lucille Earll, and was selected by the Board because it was felt it would unify people in the individual schools into an individual district with a common identity.

The original Unity Point building in 1957 consisted of eight classrooms, and enrollment was 263 students.
